One of Philip Shaw‘s dramatic labels illustrates the attention-getting factor with his Edinburg Palace Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV label. The Association of Australian Boutique Winemakers has seized on the importance of label design since its foundation. The Label Design Awards has grown into Australia’s Wine Design Competition and in 2013 will launch the second year of this all in, Australia and New Zealand effort to establish the best bottles in 12 classes. Both Boutique and giant companies will compete in separate tonnage-based plus open classes. 2012 saw Taylor’s take off the top prize and all of the results can be seen on this site in the results section.
The Association’s first electronic application form will be launched for the competition in the first week of February. Watch this space!
