Ben Riggs accepted the Dan Murphy’s Wine of Show trophy for his outstanding Cabernet.
Awards Chairman Huon Hooke wrote: ” Very good depth of youthful red-purple colour, lush blackberry cabernet varietal aromas with no sign of leafiness, but definitely varietal. Oak beautifully handled and discreet and tannins velvet smooth and simple, yet providing structure. An outstanding young cabernet with a big future.” Results Book 2012.
Winemaker Ben Riggs says “ The grapes were picked on different days to allow for optimum ripening, parcels of fruit for the Mr. Riggs 2010 “Outpost” Coonawarra Cabernet were separately fermented in 7 and 8 tonne open fermenters. On-skin fermentation was completed before pressings were sent to barrel for 13-17 months to complete fermentation in a 45% new American and French oak combination. Very proud of the third vintage of this fine addition to the Mr. Riggs portfolio, It is a very fragrant, aromatic, tightly structured Coonawarra Cabernet with a lovely, soft, juicy middle palate.” Read more at Mr Riggs
