Thomas Wines is one of the Hunter Valley’s most renowned winemakers, nationally and internationally acclaimed for its exceptional, single vineyard Hunter Valley wines. Owner and winemaker Andrew (Thommo) Thomas is regarded as the rising star winemaker of the Hunter Valley. Many feel that he has re-invented Hunter Valley Semillon, most likely due to his superb winemaking skills and his recognition and celebration of the land on which his grapes are grown.

The Boutique Wine Show is proud to have Thommo as one of its judges this year.

June 2017 Thomas Wines was awarded the Hunter Valley Cellar Door of the Year at the Hunter Valley Legends & Awards Dinner. The award recognises exemplary wine knowledge; the ability to sell the Hunter Valley brand and active involvement in wine tourism.

Andrew’s company Thomas Wines is producing great semillon and classy shiraz. The first vintage was produced in 1997, with an absolute focus and determination to specialise in producing top shelf examples of these signature Hunter Valley varieties.

Tommo on his sem’: Hunter Valley semillon is one of the world’s most uniquely regional wine styles. The Thomas Wines Braemore vineyard (planted 1969) is situated on Hermitage Road, Pokolbin, and consistently produces semillon featuring freshness, vibrancy and remarkable longevity. This wine has achieved an enviable reputation in recent years as being one of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley semillon.

…and his Kiss Shiraz: A cheeky name for a serious wine. It is an individual vineyard Hunter Valley Shiraz, grown on the tough clay/loam soils of the Pokolbin Estate vineyard (planted 1969). These naturally low cropping vines consistently produce fruit with exceptional depth and concentration. This is the benchmark Shiraz for Thomas Wines, expressing the very best qualities of each vintage. The first vintage of Kiss Shiraz was in 2001, and since that time, each vintage has received countless wine show awards and accolades.

Having previously spent 13 years learning and applying his craft at Tyrrell’s, Andrew has over two and half decades of experience winemaking in the Hunter Valley. It’s the no compromise, attention to detail approach to his winemaking that has seen him named 2014 Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year (having previously won the award in 2008), as well as contributing to an impressive array of wine show trophies, medals, and enviable critical acclaim. 55 trophies, 171 Gold Medals and a total of 840 medals in all, over the last decade for Thomas Wines is an impressive haul from an impressive winemaker.
