The ‘Swan’ Looks for Awards Recognition

cache_600_600_0_lateharvest_rrEntries are coming in from all over Australia and New Zealand now for the 18th year of the Boutique Wine Awards. Mandoon Estate, Swan Valley WA is one of the latest entrants and we found their story an interesting one.

Judith Kennedy our CEO remembers: “When I was a school kid in the 60’s my parents, brother and sister and I sometimes travelled from South Perth to Toodyay Road in the Swan Valley to purchase grapes, watermelon and a flagon of wine for cooking. I don’t remember my parents ever drinking wine – until they were much older but I remember the summer trips to ‘the swan’ and especially the muscat grapes which ended up in my school lunch”.

Mandoon Estate is very close to Toodyay Road and was established by the Erceg family in 2008, after having purchased the historical ‘Roe Family property’ in Caversham, Swan Valley.

This property had been in the hands of the Roe family since settlement in the 1840’s by their late forefather, the Swan River Colonies First Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe. It is the desire of Mandoon Estate to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of this property as well as demonstrate the full potential of the Swan Valley as a significant Wine producing region.

The Mandoon Estate winery was established in 2010 in the Swan Valley with wines being produced under the guidance of Ryan Sudano (Senior Winemaker).

Our focus is on producing a boutique range of premium wines from well-preserved low-yielding single vineyard sites, from the Swan Valley and other prominent Western Australian regions, using traditional methods that clearly demonstrate both varietal and regional characteristics.
