Viñedos Puertas is a family-run business funded by José Puertas in 1950. In the beginning, it focused on the sale of grapes and bulk wine and the provision of vinification services. Nowadays, it also produces high quality bottled wine. Its production of bulk wine is aimed at both the domestic and foreign markets, including Germany, Slovenia, Denmark, France, China, Japan, Russia, England and Switzerland.
At its early stages the vineyard had 80 hectares and a wine cellar with capacity for 1,000,000 liters. Today, it has 650 hectares and a winery for up to 22 million liters, equipped with state-of-the-art technology where a team of experts and workers process the grapes to make the best wine.
The Winemaker Carlos Alfredo Torres Silva is also an Agronomist Engineer. He graduated with high honors from the University of Chile in November of 1980. In December 1981 he was awarded the “1981 Best Thesis on Wine Making in Chile” prize by the Chilean Association of Winemakers.
He was directly responsible in the making of the wine for which the Viña Los Robles was awarded as “The Best Chilean Wine Producer” in 2001. This distinction was received in London at The International Wine and Spirit Competition” (IWSC).
He was also directly involved in the making of more than 20 wines for which the Los Robles Winery received gold and silver medals in different international wine competitions between 2000 and 2005.
He was directly involved in the making of more than 40 wines for which the Puertas Winery received gold and silver medals in different local and international wine competitions between 2005 and 2009.
